Shocking survey reveals 46% of men still believe that sexual assault is blamed on the victim's clothes

Article: "Sexual assault happens because of revealing clothes"... half of the country still thinks this way

Source: Money Today via Nate

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family surveyed 10,020 men between the ages of 19-64 last year and revealed the following results:

46.1% believed that sexual assault occurred because of the victim's revealing clothes

39.7% believed that women falsely reported men for sexual assault out of financial reasons, anger, or revenge (43.5% of men in their thirties)

32.1% believed that if the assault occurred while the victim was drunk, the victim is also at fault

31.9% believed that accepting kissing or petting is also consent to intercourse

27.7% of men in their twenties believe that r*pe is not possible if the victim resists

As for solutions, 16.7% voted that there needs to be policy form to prevent secondary damage to the victims, 16.6% voted for safer living environments, and 13.9% voted for harsher punishments for the criminals

-

[+372, -49] Sexual assault is not a problem with what the victim is wearing but a personal perverted problem of the criminal. Normal people do not commit sexual assault.

[+169, -21] I'll admit that revealing clothes have a provocative pull, but the problem lies with the dogs who are not able to control their animal instincts

[+157, -27] Are these guys crazy? How are they able to control themselves in stores without wanting to steal everything? These are all psychopaths.

[+91, -55] I do admit that revealing clothes will make you a target, though

[+41, -27] I won't deny that revealing clothes doesn't have an influence in it

[+28, -21] Revealing clothes isn't responsible for 100% of the crime but it's not exactly 0% either, is it?

[+23, -16] But it's true that revealing clothes can be a factor, how can you argue that it's not?

[+17, -20] Aigoo, how have such outdated notions not disappeared from our society yet?? If someone cheats on their exam by looking at the paper of the classmate sitting in front of them, is it that classmate's fault?? If a thief comes in through an open window, did the person who opened the window welcome the thief in? Where are people even getting such disgusting notions from? We teach our kids not to think in such a way. We teach them to act like human beings. People who aren't able to control themselves like this are just animals - the revealing clothes are not to blame.

[+16, -17] It may not be 100% of the reason but it can be some of the reason! Most normal men can control themselves but it might make it more difficult for a problematic man to...

[+11, -8] And why would thinking that way be wrong? You have to admit that it's a factor.

[+9, -5] The problem lies with the criminals who are unable to control their urges... but if you put a woman in revealing clothes alongside a woman in modest clothes in front of said criminal, which one do you think he would pick..??

[+8, -8] If clothes are really to blame, then how do you explain the assaults that happen in the middle of winter where everyone's dressed in long paddings..? All sexual assault crimes should be left with the criminal to blame. Anyone can become a victim and everyone should practice safety precautions. We all lock our doors because we know we can become victim to a thief, and we all avoid dark alleyways because we know dangerous things might lurk there.

Foreigners in Korea react to the issue of the country's low birth rate

Article: The issue with Korea's low birth rate, as seen through the eyes of foreigners

Source: JTBC via Naver [video here]

[+1,403, -319] The majority of Korean men do not consider household chores and raising children as something they need to take a lead on. And if you're asking if that means they contribute economically to the household, that's not it either. Sure, if you tell them to do something, they'll help you with it... but most women have to not only hold down jobs but also complete household chores and raise their children on their own. There's a very big difference between helping with a task and taking the lead and doing it yourself.

[+521, -58] The economic ability and environmental upbringing of raising children are important but I think it has more to do with the household chores and child rearing falling on to the women's side of work that makes it so much harder

[+472, -34] We are in a generation where women are able to go to college and get jobs just like men, and yet our culture and traditions are still stuck in the conservative days of patriarchy. Once a woman gets married, her suffering begins. I do not want my daughter to walk the path I have. I'd rather she lives confidently and independently.

[+377, -42] Suffering begins for women once they get married and have kids

[+104, -5] Rising housing costs, education costs... I think most Koreans have the mindset that they'd rather not have children at all if they can't provide for them with the Joneses, that we may be alive now because we were forced to be, but we don't want that for our children. We believe that life below middle class is meaningless, and it's the tragedy of our generation... We believe that a happy life is only one where we live in a penthouse apartment in a big city and send our kids to a SKY college... The tragedy of our country is that we have allowed only one route in life to thrive.

[+75, -6] Even foreign women who have only lived here briefly can see so easily what the problem is, and yet Korean men would rather foam at the mouths than admit the truth. Extinction is the only solution for our country ã…Žã…Žã…Žã…Žã…Žã…Ž

[+52, -3] So embarrassing... that foreigners are able to analyze our problem better than our own government...

[+51, -2] The foreigner who said a woman's life is over once she has kids is true. We are not cattle for you to breed.

[+33, -3] Society demands all three things from women: household chores, child rearing, and holding down a job. Of course women are going to start dropping one since the other two aren't as difficult in comparison.

[+23, -2] My experience from living in Korea is that I am not happy, and I know that it will only get worse with time. I wonder how much worse it might be for my child. That is why I think people don't want to have children.

Mysterious ghost figure atop highway tunnel spooks drivers, turns out to be curious middle schooler

Article: "I wanted to see the pretty sky" female middle schooler climbs atop highway soundproof tunnel 10-some meters high

Source: Yonhap News via Nate

[+1,596, -45] You have got to be kidding me. You can see the sky from the rooftop of your own home; you know that, right?

[+1,234, -39] She better not have done this to post about on SNS

[+994, -32] What a show

[+101, -0] She may just be saying that as an excuse. Maybe she was thinking other things. I think her school and her parents should keep an eye on her.

[+73, -2] Perhaps she climbed up there to commit s*icide but couldn't do it and is giving an excuse now? Because to climb something that high, all alone... especially at an age where you make spontaneous decisions like this more easily... She's just a child so let's please cool it with the hate comments. It's not like you've all never committed a mistake before...

[+54, -6] Perhaps she should be tested for drugs? Because I've never seen a middle schooler do something like this without being under the influence of something.

[+38, -4] She might be going through something... Sure, maybe she really did go up there to "see the sky"... but why would you want to see the sky unless you were feeling something mentally or emotionally difficult to process? Someone needs to take a look into what her life has been like...

[+24, -2] That's insane behavior

[+22, -0] Aigoo, you immature brat. You almost put so many lives at danger with this. Thank goodness she got down safely.

[+21, -3] She almost got sent to the sky just by attempting to see it

[+14, -2] Her excuse may sound believable but I think she went up there to commit s*icide and then got scared

Netizens ridicule woman in her twenties caught acting like an iljin to middle schoolers

Article: Ulsan unnies in their twenties force middle/high schoolers to kneel and assault them for failing to "greet them back"

Source: Insight via Instagram

[+768] They are 26 years old and have nothing better to do than assault middle/high schoolers..? I think some of us older 34-year-olds need to teach them a lesson..

[+685] ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ Still playing iljin while in your twenties, that's hilarious

[+414] Wait, you're 26 years old and acting like this?? How are you not embarrassed.... ã…‹ã…‹

[+158] Tsk tsk, they're worried about roleplaying iljins when they should be worried about their retirement savings

[+154] Their IQ should be tested, they seem way slower than the average..

[+142] Man, their classmates should've let them roleplay as iljins back in school... Isn't it obvious that they're trying to be iljins now because they couldn't before?

[+41] 26 years old ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ what do you even want to be greeted by a middle/high schooler for... I initially thought this news was about fellow teens

[+54] At 26, I was already raising my own children... and yet some people are going around acting so childishly like this.

[+41] Seems like they haven't been able to adjust to the real world and are trying to relive their glory days by roleplaying iljins

[+16] 26 years old... which would make them 96er/97ers... How do you sleep at night without feeling embarrassed of your life? ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

[+2] Unnis with no education, no achievements... nothing but the glory days of their iljin pasts to fall back on

-

Source: Naver

[+560, -1] 26 years old and still acting like a teen... why do you bother living? What a waste of rice

[+126, -1] At least the middle/high schoolers have an excuse for being young and naive.... what's your excuse in your mid-twenties?

[+70, -2] Is there a typo? Did you mean 16 year old? Not 26? Because I refuse to believe that someone's life is this sh*tty that they are taking their anger out on middle/high schoolers... tsk tsk.

[+44, -0] People like this have no respect for human beings at all. They want respect but have not earned it so they demand it just for the fact that they're older.

[+2, -0] 26 years old? ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ Ah, sorry... ã…Žã…Žã…Ž just too funny;;; unless the journalist-nim made a typo and meant 16 years old?;;;;

[+1, -0] No, but really, if you're in your twenties and still behaving like this, the first commenter is right... why do you bother living and wasting our rice? ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

Netizens marvel at elementary school students studying on a 'med school track'

Article: The difficulty level of problems being solved by elementary school students on the 'med school track'

Source: Wikitree via Instagram

[+67] I'm a med school grad myself and don't understand the problem either

[+21] At that age, the most you should expect from them is to use the paper to blow their noses with

[+9] Wow... if you're already that smart at that age, I've heard of kids basically losing interest in their regular school classes and just listening to advanced lectures on their iPads during class... I don't even understand where you would find a med school track for elementary school students? Certainly not at a normal school, maybe an international school? What a different world they're living in compared to my own elementary kid ã…

[+9] There needs to be a law passed where you're not allowed to prepare for entrance exams longer than three years in advance. This is not normal 🔥

[+4] This is way too much prep work in advance......

[+3] What do problems like this even matter in the big picture of getting into med school or becoming a doctor...

[+3] This is child abuse

[+2] Can kids like this ever be happy? It's obvious that it's their parents who are forcing them to become doctors... I would love to see their parents try to solve this problem first

[+2] I'm just really curious as to whether this child is learning this because they want to! Or because their parents want them to....

[+2] It took me 10 minutes just to read the problem

[+1] And no one in the comments has found the answer still

[+1] I'm more amazed that anyone is able to solve this at all

[+1] This is impressive and all but I think it's more important that they're outside and running around at that age than solving these problems

Koreans are getting fed up with cafe menus being displayed in English for aesthetics

Article: Elderly are turning away from ordering due to increasing trend of English menus at restaurants

Source: Insight via Instagram

[+419] Isn't it kind of funny to be displaying menus in English when these businesses are in Korea? ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

[+338] We live in Korea, just write it in Hangeul!!!

[+231] Just use Hangeul!!!

[+111] What's funny about cafes like this is that an actual foreigner will show up talking in English and they're like "huh?"

[+70] I think it's even funnier when you start ordering in English off the menu and they can't even understand or keep up and have to call their manager ã…‹

[+25] I give up ordering as well. Do people think English makes them look cooler or something? English may be used around the world but this is Korea, isn't it? Do the managers and staff speak in English among themselves too?

[+25] I fail to think of a reason why tehse menus need to be written in English

[+22] Wow, these menus look like they're from another country

[+22] I do often find myself wondering what a store is selling when their whole menu is written in English...

[+19] Well, there's an old marketing saying that... if you don't understand what an advertisement or message is trying to tell you, you are not the target audience for it...

[+9] It's not just the elderly struggling with this, I can't order either ã…  it takes me forever just to read through the menu

-

Source: Nate

[+2,482, -30] That cafe seriously wrote 'mi soo ga ru' as 'M.S.G.R.'

[+1,763, -35] I also find it funny that they changed our money system from 7,000 won to look more like dollars or euros with smaller denominations like 7.0

[+371, -5] You have got to be kidding me with the 'M.S.G.R.'

[+95, -0] They're selling misoogaru for 7,000 won???? Hul... the MSGR is funny enough but the price is even funnier

[+58, -2] Are they embarrassed of Hangeul or something????

[+54, -0] MSGR ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

[+53, -1] The real comedy is that these restaurants won't even be able to understand you if you talk to them in English

[+31, -3] These cafes better make sure that they take their orders in English too, dammit

[+25, -0] Reminds me of someone's post where they said they asked a cafe for 'nokcha' and were told that they don't have 'nokcha' but they have 'green tea' ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

[+20, -1] I don't think it's just the elderly, menus like this are difficult for even people in their 20s/30s to read

Chinese tourist loses Chanel bag with money inside, good Samaritan finds and returns it intact

Article: "Surprising Korea" tourist loses luxury bag with 5 million won in it, it was found and returned as is

Source: Asia Economy via Naver

[+360, -1] I know that this is always the right thing to do but it still makes me proud and grateful to the person who returned it

[+113, -0] And yet I still haven't found my wallet with my library card and ID in it ã… ã…  they tried to take the bus with it! I hope they get heat stroke!!!

[+107, -3] We are a country of bicycle thieves, we don't steal anything else

[+58, -9] We have a lot of bad people too~

[+22, -1] You would think that seeing the money inside might've persuaded them otherwise but they headed straight to report it. I wish them all the luck in the world.

[+11, -0] When Koreans see a bag sitting alone at a cafe, they're mostly thinking about how they can steal the seat, not how they can steal the bag

[+11, -1] There's just too many CCTV to risk stealing anything ã…‹ã…‹ I think that has a lot to do with it

[+7, -0] I once lost my wallet and someone sent it to my address with only my cards and IDs. They took the money ã…¡ã…¡

[+6, -0] CCTV will catch anything, that's why

[+4, -0] What an amazing person! What a way to raise up our national prestige!!

-
