'The Idol' criticized for chain smoking scenes

Article: Drama starring 'Innocent' Jennie under controversy for chain... three back to back in the span of five minutes

Source: Seoul Economy via Naver

[+229, -3] This is a failure of managing her image. Her agency did her so wrong with this. She needed to have kept pushing her luxury image, and this sudden trashy transformation is frustrating because it's clear they only saw the tree and not the forest.

[+132, -2] Jennie really made the wrong decision here ㅜㅜ her image is so ruined ㅜㅜ

[+45, -3] Enough with news of this drama, it makes my face hot with how inappropriate it is. Well, at least the cast will be getting more adult-rated castings from now on.

[+43, -4] Jennie's agency really trashed her hard-earned image

[+24, -0] Since when was Jennie "innocent"? The New Zealand iljin? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

[+13, -1] After seeing Jennie in this... the Chanel image has been completely wiped...

[+12, -0] So weird ㅠ...

[+10, -0] Still can't forget her facial expression as she was sandwiched between those two men

[+8, -0] I no longer wish to see screencaps of Jennie from 'The Idol.' There are kids who read these articles, it's completely inappropriate.

[+6, -1] It would've been fine if she at least looked sexy, but she looked like a child next to all the western women. This was a total failure of image making on her part.

[+5, -0] So raunchy.. so unnecessary ㅠ why did she choose this! ㅠ

[+4, -0] Surely she read the script before taking it on... there's no way she didn't know this was the kind of drama it was beforehand...

[+3, -0] Her agency is just insane

[+3, -0] Her agency worked so hard to raise her with the best of luxuries, why would you expose her to something like this in the end?

Jennie's 'The Idol' scene continues to drum up criticism

Article: Jennie's actor debut 'The Idol'... "Disrespectful, dirty, indecent" negative reviews

Source: Seoul Economy via Naver

[+3,354, -42] She looked dirty

[+2,328, -53] She's basically ripping up everything she's built up with Black Pink with her own hands

[+1,476, -29] I just have no idea why she would ever agree to such a low-rate drama like this.....

[+829, -29] It's not like she went into filming without having read the scenario beforehand... She and her agency chose this... so they have to accept the criticisms. What a shame.

[+420, -2] The whole scene looked like some o*gy, it was disgusting

[+303, -3] Jennie's facial expression looked like some AV actress while dancing with those two men ㅜㅜ I hated it

[+222, -16] I don't even see why this is a problem... Jennie never had a classy face to begin with. This is a great fit for her...

[+201, -3] What do we expect from a culture that will take any scrap an "American advancement" will throw at us? Who do we have to blame than the people who chose to do such work?

[+188, -11] This is the level Jennie is at, basically. It's gross.

[+161, -1] Her and Whasa... people need to step in and stop them. They have no idea what the difference is between art and crossing the line.

[+160, -4] She's totally ripped up all of Black Pink's hard-earned image~ and to think she was out there on the red carpet like she was an actual movie star when she's nothing but a side character~ I don't think she'll be getting any more acting roles any time soon.

[+158, -2] I read that Jennie read the script and immediately wanted to it. Both Jisoo and Jennie are going to need to train a better eye for picking up future works. They're ruining the image quality of their group. Please gain some experience and stop picking up the first thing that you're offered. I'm sorry to say this but Jisoo just doesn't have the voice or tonality for acting. She has a pretty face so she should just be satisfied as being a girl group center. Jennie... shooting something like this makes her look gross, no matter how different she may be in real life ㅜ

[+151, -0] What is there to feel bad for? She specifically chose this drama herself. Her point is clear - this is how she wants to represent Asian stars in Western works. She has no problem playing up their version of the Asian fantasy. She's kind of dumb.. and perhaps should learn to be less greedy if she wants a longer running career.

[+154, -4] At the end of the day, Jennie and YG chose this. No one forced her. It's unfair to talk about her as if she sacrificed anything to take this on.

[+143, -3] It's such a clear example of how the Western audience views Asian women. I don't see why a popular K-Pop star such as herself would ever feel the need to accept such a role. What a shame.

[+71, -1] It'd be fine if she actually looked sexy in it but....

[+51, -11] Quite an explicit example of how Americans view Korean women

[+40, -4] She's quite greedy for the fame... just like how she left GD for V..

[+34, -1] ㅠㅠ I don't know why she'd throw away all the honor she worked hard to build for this~~~ We can brag about how big K-Pop is becoming all over the world but at the end of the day, foreigners have no problem devaluing K-Pop stars to this level.

[+27, -0] Jennie's face, eyes are so gross when she's adncing with the two men. I don't know why she had to go this far.

[+30, -4] V, wake up~~~~~

[+24, -0] An embarrassment to the country

[+18, -1] Her facial expressions looked quite experienced ㅋ

[+18, -1] YG is going to have to reflect a lot over this. They crumbled her image overnight.

[+16, -0] Amazing that she even made it to Cannes over a 10-minute-long dance ㅋㅋㅋ

[+15, -0] This clip can be best described as just "dirty"

Jennie's 'The Idol' debut sparks criticisms

Article: Jennie's American debut drama under criticism for highly s*xual content "Abusive s*x fantasy"

Source: No Cut News via Naver

[+705, -44] Jennie doesn't seem normal to me

[+355, -6] Isn't she at a level where she doesn't need to partake in these things?

[+337, -23] I'm honestly disappointed in her... "She was used"? She's not a rookie, she chose to do this drama, and I don't know how anyone can defend this as being "artistic"?? It's disgusting and gross... Did she not think about what her parents would feel if they saw this? Or is she willing to just do anything as long as she gets paid, stripping and dancing and all? She's no superstar...

[+192, -10] I don't know why she felt the need to stoop to this... tsk tsk tsk. The song, the choreography... She's like a puppet who just does whatever she's told, takes on concepts that other people make for her... What does she know how to judge for herself other than what her next cellphone is going to be?

[+79, -1] She voluntarily cheapened herself

[+57, -0] We're watching in real time one of the hottest brands cheapen themselves to nothing... It really only takes a moment.

[+38, -0] What a waste of the luxury image she's built for herself, along with tainting Chanel's image. The other dances weren't doing any of the s*xual dances that Jennie and the two men were so why? Why did she choose to film this?

[+37, -2] It made me uncomfortable because it felt like she was being used by the show. Or was this some attempt at trying to pull down a Korean idol... I just want to know what the director or even her own agency was thinking by putting her in this?

[+34, -1] This isn't Jennie's fault. The blame goes to her agency for failing to manage their eye for picking and rejecting projects like this.

[+29, -2] Totally felt like they were all high or something

[+22, -0] She threw K-Pop's image into the trash

[+26, -5] It definitely looked like they were doing it

[+16, -1] From advertising Chanel... to looking this cheap.

[+16, -2] I feel like a big scandal is brewing for her one day

[+13, -0] The fact that she's an artist and yet she consented to partake in something like this without even attempting to understand the depth of everything that's involved... tsk tsk. Or is YG the one to blame? Did they get greedy and force her into this?

[+11, -0] I don't get why people are acting like Jennie's the victim when it's obvious that she chose to volunteer for this ㅋㅋ She's always been like this

[+11, -0] Quite the... debut...

[+11, -0] The blame goes to Jennie, her agency, and all the people around them who didn't put a stop to this, tsk tsk

[+7, -0] Just look up her scene on YouTube... it is definitely erotic. The moves were meant to look like s*x moves. I don't see why there was ever a need to go this far.

[+7, -0] Jennie's quite dumb sometimes ㅠㅠ

[+7, -1] She's almost 30... who cares if she shoots a bed scene or a straight-up s*x scene? It's up to her, no?

[+6, -0] Perhaps she thought the scene looked cool at the time of filming... and now that it's on screen, it doesn't...

[+5, -0] Please just stick to being a singer. This is only cheapening your image.

[+5, -0] The facial expression on that man is gross

[+5, -0] Jennie's brain seems to be emptying out, hmmm? She has no eye for these things... shouldn't you know better than to say yes to this? It's not like you're poor and can't refuse the money?

[+4, -0] I just don't know why she would want to do this... It's not like it's some highly artistic movie that is worthy of praise? She's rich, Black Pink is doing well... this was totally filmed for the male gaze. I'm sure her fans would be more supportive if she looked sexy and cool but this has passed the level of sexy into straight-up back-alley cheapness... It cheapened her image. tsk tsk

[+4, -0] Smooth brain

[+4, -0] Yeah, her image is... tanking ㅠ

New HBO series 'The Idol' featuring Jennie is receiving negative reviews after Cannes screening

Article: "Vulgar and unpleasant" negative reviews rain on new TV series starring Jennie 'The Idol'

Source: Wikitree via Instagram

[+237] I'm glad that Jennie is not the main character... I've never seen such negative reviews before. Just how bad is it that the Rotten Tomatoes score is only 9%? ㅜㅜㅜㅜ

[+83] There are certain directors who fail to draw a line between p*rnography and art, and are fully convinced that they can depict p*rnography as art. I remember when I was younger, I was confused why everyone considered director Kim Ki Duk's work to be so artistic, so praise-worthy and felt like I was missing something... but then all those scandals happened and I know to trust my gut. There are cowardly and abhorrent directors who hide their own lust and desires under the guise of "artistic expression"... failing to understand that we see right through them and their shamelessness.

[+75] Hul, a single-digit rating.....

[+55] I never had high hopes for this series because of all the singers involved but not a lot of actual actors, but this is a lot more negative than I thought... Either way, Jennie does not have a lot of screentime in the series, but still got opportunities out of it like stepping foot into Cannes and collabing with The Weeknd. I'm sure she knew that this was not a serious acting project but something to leverage The Weeknd's fame into her own.

[+9] Reminds me of Sandara Park's movie when a large portion of the audience got up and walked out in the middle of the screening. The industry is cold.

[+6] I've seriously never seen anything as low as 9% on Rotten Tomatoes

[+6] Which is going to be the bigger flop? The Black Mermaid or The Idol 😂

[+3] I'm just glad Jennie doesn't have a lot of screentime in this ㅠㅠ

[+3] I don't even get where singers think they can get into acting so easily like this. There are so many talented actual actors out there.

[+1] Flopping like a dog 😂

Source: Naver

[+2,706, -25] So she spent 5 minutes and 10 minutes respectively in the first two episodes... is it even accurate to call this a Jennie drama?

[+2,288, -703] I just don't find her pretty but the media's always hyping her up...

[+359, -38] I think idols especially need to be careful when deciding to work with HBO... They may produce a lot of superstars but their works are known to include an excessive amount of provocative scenes including nudity, same-sex relationships, and even inc*est... a lot of explicit violence as well. Their dramas are truly adult-rated. When I heard that Jennie was going to be on HBO, I was concerned because it was difficult for me to line up her image with what HBO is normally known for. I don't know whether this was YG or Jennie's decision but it seems like one where she loses more than she gains.

[+267, -22] It's a depiction of Hollywood in its rawest form, of course people aren't going to find it pleasant ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

[+238, -10] ㅋㅋㅋ I thought she was a lead or something. She probably won't get into any controversy considering that she's not the lead.

[+216, -15] The media always overhypes her beauty ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

[+101, -1] She got invited to Cannes over two scenes of 5 minute and 10 minute screentimes?? So they basically just used her for marketing?

[+93, -2] It seems pretty obvious that she was invited to Cannes just to create headlines... and she should've known that and declined. Acting like the lead on the red carpet over two scenes amount to 5 and 10 minutes... and then dealing with the aftermath of negative reviews... Feels like they used her as a bullet shield!

[+96, -8] She looks more and more like Hong Hyun Hee

[+87, -1] Just stick to what you've been doing, what's the point of getting all this hate over something so pointless

[+86, -1] 5 and 10 minutes? That's more like a cameo appearance, no?

[+63, -3] I seriously don't see what people find so charming about her. Maybe she just has a look that westerners like?

[+45, -1] YG should've done more research before signing her on... She went to the Cannes over a cameo appearance in some p*rno? I'm glad that she only has about 15 minutes of screentime, because aigoo YG...

[+40, -1] Her face looks so Vietnamese to me

[+39, -3] She barely has any screentime and yet she was posing there at the Cannes like she was the lead ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ...
