New HBO series 'The Idol' featuring Jennie is receiving negative reviews after Cannes screening

Article: "Vulgar and unpleasant" negative reviews rain on new TV series starring Jennie 'The Idol'

[+237] I'm glad that Jennie is not the main character... I've never seen such negative reviews before. Just how bad is it that the Rotten Tomatoes score is only 9%? ㅜㅜㅜㅜ

[+83] There are certain directors who fail to draw a line between p*rnography and art, and are fully convinced that they can depict p*rnography as art. I remember when I was younger, I was confused why everyone considered director Kim Ki Duk's work to be so artistic, so praise-worthy and felt like I was missing something... but then all those scandals happened and I know to trust my gut. There are cowardly and abhorrent directors who hide their own lust and desires under the guise of "artistic expression"... failing to understand that we see right through them and their shamelessness.

[+75] Hul, a single-digit rating.....

[+55] I never had high hopes for this series because of all the singers involved but not a lot of actual actors, but this is a lot more negative than I thought... Either way, Jennie does not have a lot of screentime in the series, but still got opportunities out of it like stepping foot into Cannes and collabing with The Weeknd. I'm sure she knew that this was not a serious acting project but something to leverage The Weeknd's fame into her own.

[+9] Reminds me of Sandara Park's movie when a large portion of the audience got up and walked out in the middle of the screening. The industry is cold.

[+6] I've seriously never seen anything as low as 9% on Rotten Tomatoes

[+6] Which is going to be the bigger flop? The Black Mermaid or The Idol 😂

[+3] I'm just glad Jennie doesn't have a lot of screentime in this ㅠㅠ

[+3] I don't even get where singers think they can get into acting so easily like this. There are so many talented actual actors out there.

[+1] Flopping like a dog 😂

[+2,706, -25] So she spent 5 minutes and 10 minutes respectively in the first two episodes... is it even accurate to call this a Jennie drama?

[+2,288, -703] I just don't find her pretty but the media's always hyping her up...

[+359, -38] I think idols especially need to be careful when deciding to work with HBO... They may produce a lot of superstars but their works are known to include an excessive amount of provocative scenes including nudity, same-sex relationships, and even inc*est... a lot of explicit violence as well. Their dramas are truly adult-rated. When I heard that Jennie was going to be on HBO, I was concerned because it was difficult for me to line up her image with what HBO is normally known for. I don't know whether this was YG or Jennie's decision but it seems like one where she loses more than she gains.

[+267, -22] It's a depiction of Hollywood in its rawest form, of course people aren't going to find it pleasant ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

[+238, -10] ㅋㅋㅋ I thought she was a lead or something. She probably won't get into any controversy considering that she's not the lead.

[+216, -15] The media always overhypes her beauty ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

[+101, -1] She got invited to Cannes over two scenes of 5 minute and 10 minute screentimes?? So they basically just used her for marketing?

[+93, -2] It seems pretty obvious that she was invited to Cannes just to create headlines... and she should've known that and declined. Acting like the lead on the red carpet over two scenes amount to 5 and 10 minutes... and then dealing with the aftermath of negative reviews... Feels like they used her as a bullet shield!

[+96, -8] She looks more and more like Hong Hyun Hee

[+87, -1] Just stick to what you've been doing, what's the point of getting all this hate over something so pointless

[+86, -1] 5 and 10 minutes? That's more like a cameo appearance, no?

[+63, -3] I seriously don't see what people find so charming about her. Maybe she just has a look that westerners like?

[+45, -1] YG should've done more research before signing her on... She went to the Cannes over a cameo appearance in some p*rno? I'm glad that she only has about 15 minutes of screentime, because aigoo YG...

[+40, -1] Her face looks so Vietnamese to me

[+39, -3] She barely has any screentime and yet she was posing there at the Cannes like she was the lead ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ...
